Titanium bikes are as much an art as a science. The ah:wi incorporates Litespeed’s most intricate tube shaping for a light, nimble ride that pushes the boundaries of performance. ah:wi (ah-wee) is the Cherokee term for deer, fast and nimble through the forest, and it’s perfectly suited to the spirit of this bike.
The ah:wi is constructed with size-specific 3Al/2.5V titanium tubes and finished with Litespeed’s 6Al/4V variable tapered top tube. The top tube -- newly designed for 2016 -- improves upon the already-legendary hexagon shape we pioneered with the T1 road bike (formerly the Archon). Created from a single sheet of 6Al/4V titanium to make a unique multi-faceted tapered tube that reduces weight and increases stiffness. With more visible facets, and even more precise internal tolerances, we spend more time creating one tube than it takes our competitors to build a complete bike.
In addition, the width of the top tube grows (in a trumpet shape) as it approaches the 44mm head tube -- giving us a greater surface area to join these larger tubes and create a flex-free platform for you to push against.
An oversized bi-axially ovalized downtube, mated to the PF30 BB, adds to the stiffness. The butted chainstays and reinforced, disc-specific dropouts combine to make a ride that’s stiff side-to-side, but forgiving over the rough stuff. The ah:wi is Multi-Wheel Compatible; it’s optimized for 27.5” wheels but easily accepts 26” thanks to the concentric bottom bracket.
What this means for you is a tubeset that’s lighter, more responsive, and designed for the best performance you can give it. Blink, and you might miss it.
